What each MiCA service means
a · Custody & administration of crypto-assets

Safekeeping or controlling crypto-assets — or the means of access to them, e.g. private keys — on behalf of clients.

b · Operation of a trading platform

Running a marketplace that brings together multiple third-party buying and selling interests in crypto-assets so that a contract results (an exchange/venue).

c · Exchange of crypto-assets for funds

Buying or selling crypto-assets against fiat money with clients, dealing on the firm's own account (acting as counterparty).

d · Exchange of crypto-assets for other crypto-assets

As above, but swapping one crypto-asset for another, on the firm's own account.

e · Execution of orders on behalf of clients

Concluding agreements to buy, sell or subscribe for crypto-assets on behalf of clients.

f · Placing of crypto-assets

Marketing newly-issued or offered crypto-assets to specific buyers on behalf of, or for, the offeror/issuer.

g · Reception & transmission of orders

Receiving a client's order to buy or sell crypto-assets and passing it to a third party for execution.

h · Advice on crypto-assets

Providing personalised recommendations to a client about crypto-assets or crypto-asset services.

i · Portfolio management on crypto-assets

Managing crypto-asset portfolios on a discretionary, client-by-client basis under each client's mandate.

j · Transfer services for crypto-assets

Moving crypto-assets from one distributed-ledger address or account to another on behalf of a client.

Plain-language summaries of the crypto-asset service definitions in MiCAR (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114), Article 3 — not verbatim legal text; consult the Regulation for the binding wording.
Corporate groups holding more than one CASP licence. Only Bitpanda spans multiple countries.
European origin vs non-European, by category
Non-European-origin firms (all listed)
Origin = where the ultimate parent is founded/headquartered, from the supplied origins dataset (parent company + origin country). The EU-licensed entity itself is always in the EEA; this shows who owns it. Geographic Europe (incl. UK, Switzerland, Norway) counts as European.

Company websites
Every firm's brand in the Directory tab links straight to its official website (taken from the ESMA register). 16 entities have no website listed in the register.

These well-known global exchanges do not appear in the 26 Jun 2026 register snapshot used here. Absence is a fact about this dataset only — it does not by itself confirm a firm has withdrawn from the EU or been refused; an application may be in progress, or status may have changed. Verify current standing with the relevant regulator or ESMA before relying on it.
