BACKGROUND

Movantis is one of Latin America's largest cross border payments networks: 24 years of infrastructure, $63B+ in annual volume across 17 LATAM markets, and roughly 60% of all US to LATAM remittance flow. At the start of this engagement, Movantis's leadership had already set a goal beyond the immediate stablecoin build: to evolve from a remittance network into a broader financial infrastructure platform spanning both digital assets and traditional finance. The stablecoin rail was the first concrete step toward that goal, and it was scoped from day one to be the foundation other fintech products could later build on.

THE CHALLENGE

Movantis had the market position, licenses, and executive mandate to make this move, but not the internal capability: no crypto stack, no vetted infrastructure vendors, and no operating playbook for running digital rails across multiple jurisdictions. The build also had to happen without interrupting a systemically important payments business already running at scale. That meant sequencing compliance work across three countries, coordinating a web of external partners, and training internal teams to operate the new stack themselves rather than simply receive it from outside.

WHAT WE DID

Outrun operated as the working team behind the new capability, responsible for both defining the strategy and executing the build.

01

Strategy

We defined the stablecoin strategy from the ground up, framing Movantis as a platform connecting digital assets and traditional finance in line with its longer term fintech ambition, then translated that framing into specific, prioritized client use cases.

02

Vendor selection

We ran a structured RFP process to select Movantis's core technology stack. Providers were evaluated on custody model, blockchain coverage, compliance certification, pricing, and time to launch, resulting in the selection of a wallet infrastructure provider and a blockchain monitoring provider suited to Movantis's licenses and LATAM footprint.

03

Infrastructure build

Once the wallet infrastructure and blockchain monitoring providers were selected, we embedded within Movantis's product teams to enable the integration itself. That meant working directly with developers and other business functions to explain how each new partner worked and to map out how they fit into Movantis's existing infrastructure and platforms.

04

Operational readiness

We briefed stakeholders across the business on the shift and built the readiness layer needed to run it day to day: a compliance and treasury framework, KYC flows, and training on the new tooling, so that Movantis's own teams, not Outrun, operate the rail going forward.

05

Rails live

We connected Movantis to the Circle Payments Network as a Beneficiary Financial Institution and set up its Circle Mint account for minting and burning USDC. This converts Movantis's existing licensed local network for cashing out into fiat, built over 24 years, into a settlement advantage that pure technology networks can't easily replicate. The same infrastructure (Circle Payments Network connectivity, wallet infrastructure, and the compliance framework built around it) also gives Movantis a base to extend into fintech products beyond remittance, such as broader B2B payments, digital wallets, and trade finance, as its platform strategy develops. We brought corridors live across three markets on this infrastructure.

06

Built for new use cases

Movantis's unique position and strong fiat capabilities mean the infrastructure building blocks we identified and integrated with the Movantis team are enablers for a wide range of additional use cases. One example is a stablecoin powered card that Movantis is able to issue on the back of its principal membership with Mastercard, with our support in helping Movantis join the Mastercard Reach program. Combined with Movantis's existing fiat digital wallet capabilities, a stablecoin layer gives Movantis the infrastructure to run card issuance and remittance from the same wallet base it already operates.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

In roughly 8 months, Movantis moved from strategic intent to a live digital rail that it now markets as a capability, run inside the business by its own teams. This also puts Movantis on a path toward the fintech platform ambition set at the project's outset: rather than a single remittance margin business, it now has an infrastructure base for several reinforcing revenue levers, each modeled as a separate business case:

Working capital released

Compressing T+2 settlement to near instant moves up to ~80% of a corridor's volume on chain, releasing prefunded float.

Leaner treasury across 17 markets

Routing remittance internally through Movantis's own wallets cuts settlement cost and consolidates liquidity.

New revenue lines opened

Movantis's Beneficiary Financial Institution status within the Circle Payments Network and its ability to issue stablecoin powered cards through its Mastercard membership open new revenue lines beyond the existing remittance and payment businesses.

WHY THIS MATTERS BEYOND MOVANTIS

Established payments businesses that decide to move into stablecoins face a common gap: the distance between deciding to move and having a live, compliant rail to show for it. Closing that gap requires people who can define the strategy, run the vendor and compliance work, and build the rail alongside the client's own teams rather than advise from the outside.
