CLIENTS & PARTNERS

Outrun marketing practice

THE TEAM

Outrun's marketing practice is two people. There is no bench, no associate pool, and no matching process. The partner on the first call is the partner who does the work.

Michael Pötscher

Michael Pötscher

Co-founder, Outrun Advisory

Fifteen years building and leading marketing organisations across crypto, fintech, payments and consumer technology, from early stage to IPO track.

Michael was CMO at Bitpanda from 2019 to 2021, sitting on the management board of a regulated crypto platform through 10x revenue growth, three funding rounds and a valuation above USD 4 billion. He built the company's marketing compliance review process across six EU markets and grew the marketing team past 50 people.

Before that he spent seven years as CMO at TourRadar, joining as its first marketing hire and building the function from nothing to a team of 40 across Vienna, Brisbane and Toronto, through five funding rounds including a USD 50 million Series C, as the company grew from 5 people to more than 280.

After Bitpanda he was SVP Marketing for Digital Wallets at Paysafe, leading 70 people across Europe and North America over Skrill, Neteller and paysafecard, and restructuring the marketing operation while reducing headcount by a quarter.

He lectures in marketing strategy at FH Wien and mentors founders across Europe.

Principles

HOW WE WORK

01

We work to outcomes, and we agree them up front

What the engagement has to achieve goes in writing on day one. At the end we check the work against it. The target does not move because the work got harder.

ServiceWhat the outcome is
InterimA marketing function that runs, a budget that holds, and a permanent successor appointed and briefed.
FractionalA marketing team with direction, a plan in market, and numbers the board can act on.
AdvisoryA decision made or a plan live, with owners against it.
MentoringGoals agreed at the start with the mentee and whoever is paying, and progress against them reviewed every quarter.
02

We flex on scope and intensity, and we say when the shape is wrong

Days per month go up and down as the work demands. A mandate can start as an assessment and become an interim appointment, or start as fractional and end when you hire. Nothing is locked into a twelve-month commitment because it suits us.

Where a company has nobody to execute the plan, we assemble and manage the specialists who do. They can be contracted through Outrun, so you deal with one contract and one invoice rather than five. What we do not do is run campaigns or produce creative ourselves.

03

We hold three to four mandates at a time

Across the whole practice, advisory and leadership work counted together. A deliberate limit. It is the reason the partner you meet is the partner doing the work, and the reason we sometimes say no or ask you to wait.

COMMON QUESTIONS

BOOK YOUR BRIEFING SESSION

Thirty minutes, at no charge, with one of the two people who would do the work. You describe the situation; we tell you which of the three services fits, how we would run it and what it costs.

Sometimes the answer is that you need a permanent hire rather than us. We would rather say that on the call than three months into a mandate.

What you leave with

Which of the three fits your situation, what it costs, and when we could start. If none of them fit, you will know that too.
